Most of us know turmeric as the yellow powder that turns our rice golden, but turmeric root holds a wonderful secret power. When turmeric powder is ingested it acts as a natural anti-inflammatory agent that alleviates pain and promotes sleep. One of the fastest ways that turmeric can be absorbed is when it is ingested as a tea. Tumeric tea makes a wonderful bedtime drink as it warms and soothes. Here are two very different ways to serve this tea.

1. Traditional Turmeric Tea
Heat four cups of water until boiling
Add one teaspoon of turmeric powder
Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes
Remove from the heat and remove all granules using a fine tea sieve
Serve with honey and lemon
2. Creamy Turmeric Tea
Heat one cup of almond or coconut milk
Mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric, a pinch of cayene pepper, ½ an inch of finely chopped ginger root and 1 ½ teaspoons of honey.
Add a small amount of the warmed milk to make a paste.
Add this paste to the cup of milk and stir well until all lumps have disappeared.
Strain with a fine sieve and serve.
Turmeric tea makes a great sleeping aid as it is non-addictive, there are no unpleasant side effects and it is inexpensive and easily accessible. Here’s to a great night’s sleep.
