1. How can I tell if I need a new bed?
Your body will tell you. Waking up with little aches and pains, particularly in your lower back, means your body isn’t getting the support it needs, and it’s probably time for a new bed.

2. How much should I pay for a bed?
Remember, your bed is the most used piece of furniture in your home. As with any purchase, you only get what you pay for. The most important piece of advice we can give you is: don’t buy the cheapest, buy the best you can afford. When shopping for a new mattress, wear comfortable clothes so you can lie down. It’s important to test drive the bed you like. Make sure the width, length and comfort level meets all your sleep needs. It’s worth the time and effort to choose a really great quality bed, because you’ll reap the rewards in years to come.

3. Do I really need a new base too?
Yes! The base acts as a shock absorber, distributing your weight evenly as you lie on the bed. Using your bed with the correct base will increase its life. Not only that, but consider what will happen if you put your new mattress on an old sagging base. Your mattress will sag too, and it won’t be able to give you the correct support.

4. Can my children use my old mattress?
Mattresses typically have a comfort life of 8 – 10 years. It is not recommended for anyone to sleep on a mattress older than 10 years. Children with their growing bones need the same amount of comfort and support as adults do.

5. Does a mattress need to be hard in order to be good for me?
No! With today’s technology, the support that your body needs comes from the quality and design of the innerspring coil unit and foundation. A good mattress and fully sprung foundation will gently support your body at all points and keep your spine in the correct position. Sealy Posturepedic Sleep Systems contain the patented Sense and Respond Support System with Sensory Arm feature that responds with increasing support as body weight is applied.

6. How do I avoid body impressions in my mattress?
Body impressions, up to ±4cm are a perfectly normal occurrence in your Sealy mattress and should not be confused with sagging. Comfort layers settle to conform to your personal sleeping position. To help minimise body impressions, we recommend turning the mattress. The turning sequence is detailed in our warranty card and will extend the comfort and support life of your sleep set.

7. How do I care for my mattress?
We recommend a mattress protector and occasionally vacuuming your mattress. Don’t allow your mattress to get wet as the upholstery layers may be affected and compress, or may become damaged.

8. I’m 2 metres tall. How can I find a bed that’s long enough for me?
At Sealy we understand that not everybody fits onto a regular length bed (1880mm), therefore we have certain models available in extra length (2000mm). Sealy also offer branded linen fitted sheets with spandex sides, for our extra deep and extra length mattresses.

9. Why do mattresses have so many different quilting designs
     and levels of thickness?

The quilting design on a mattress cover helps determine the firmness or plushness of the sleep surface. If a quilting design is small and close, the bed will tend to feel firmer; if the design is large and spread out, the bed will usually feel plusher. Today’s mattresses are manufactured with more padding upholstery and comfort layers than in days gone by. Many consumers prefer the plush and ultra-plush comfort that these deep mattresses provide. Remember, when you purchase a Sealy Posturepedic Sleep Set, you get the correct support regardless of comfort level. If your sheets don’t fit, Sealy Posturepedic now has fitted sheets to cater for the deeper and extra length mattresses.
